Waiting can be a long time. Waiting can be quiet, waiting can be alone, or it can be in company. Waiting is a diligent inhabiting of time. It is intentional. Some may not think so. Some may think that waiting is boring, tedious, drawn out. For some it generates impatience. We wait for fruit to ripen, for fish to bite. We wait for a doctor's appointment, for the children to come out come from school. We wait for a loved one to arrive from a long journey, or someone to get ready so we can go out the front door. We wait for children to grow, for Christmas to come, for a child to be born. We wait to the kettle to boil and tea to cook. We wait for a long and painful night to end, for a better future to emerge in our present. We wait for the for the sun to rise, and the sun to set, the moon to affect the tides. We wait for rain to come, for floods and fires to pass. We wait for a loved one to die, we wait with them. |
Waiting is the time needed for healing, for listening, for resting, for discerning. Waiting is the time needed, for breathing, for God. Wait, even for a little while. . . .
