Some things in life feel like an overwhelming wave. The state of politics in the global space, national leaders from Brazil, Philippines, USA, our own, among those who fail to have a sense of humanity and integrity in their leadership. Climate change events that are rolling towards us at an alarming rate. The urgent need for us to make major changes . . . yet we go shopping and still purchase products that will become landfill, taking thousands upon thousands of years to breakdown. |
It feels so overwhelming. Yet there are those whose voices are steadying, who are quiet everyday activists seeking positive change for the world, for the generations to come. Who are riders of the big waves, or expert surrenderers, and wait for it to roll over without it bringing the chaos that it seeks. They are ordinary everyday people. Mums and Dads who make daily decisions about ordinary things. Grandparents who journey with their hurting grandchildren. Adults, caring for their friends and work colleagues. Each making simple decisions - who build a culture of care and compassion with their children, grandchildren, friends, and family. Who invite them to think about how the other might feel. Who invite them to ponder the responsibility we have to the whole beyond ourselves. If I make this decision, who will bear the consequences - short term and long term. How will this help my neighbour? How do I live justly, walk humbly, love kindness? What does the fruit of the Spirit look like for me - kindness, self-control, love, humility, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, gentleness, goodness? How are these gifts for any of us as we come to big waves . . . .
