A lot of conversations around wider church circles are pointing us back to the place of the home for faith formation. An almost lost art. I was listening to a webinar in which Phyllis Tickle was talking about the table liturgy. The ritual of faith, that we live out in our home. The sense of gratitude and celebration we bring to the ordinary moments of our lives - to stop together and say grace before eating a meal, to prepare the home for festival times, to talk about the deeper meanings of life. |
Think about the liturgy we share in our churches as we come to the Eucharist, or Communion. Think about the liturgy we share as we gather around someone being brought for baptism. Think about the practice of communities of faith that share times together - worshipping, serving the community, connecting in deliberate ways that are about participating in God's work. Where does our home practice of faith resonate? How can we begin to bring back to the home, the table liturgy of faith in our homes?
