. . . they are our mothers. daughters, aunts, sisters, friends, colleagues, and much more. Soon it is international women's day. I ponder the place and importance of women in our everyday life. Household, work places, and families and communities function because of women doing all that they are, first as human beings. I think women who struggle with their identity, their gender, their sexuality. I think of women who've risen to amazing places in our social and political world. I think of women who've been the back bone and brains behind science and technological advances. I think of women who hold communities together in the face of great adversity. I think of those who are denied their voice, and justice and suffer still at the hands (and other body parts) of men who abuse position, power, and privilege. |
May we help carry each other when life gets hard, may we encourage and lift each other up. May we stand together for justice when one of us has their voice silenced or harmed. And may we continue to be the gifts for humanity that we are created to be in our own selves - first as human beings, then with the specifics of us.
For the women I know, cherish, have shared life with, thank you. For the four I have shared the most of life with - the biggest thank you! Love you ladies to the moon and back.
